Cell Phones and other Cool Gizmos!!
Well it is the Season of buying our Love for one another.
I recently just upgraded Mrs Dood's cell phone to a RAZr phone with a spiffy Blue-Tooth ear gizmo. Since her plan has expired I got a fair price for it and I gave her older(but still decent phone)to my youngest Little Dood. She is 14 and I want her to have a connection to us. Also we all have a T-Mobile plan so the calls between us are free.
So today...since the BOY(First born Little Dood) is home from college he needs a better phone. His has a crummy signal...especially where he lives...Chicago. I was thinking of getting him a RAZr as well. My sister pays for his plan. It is one of the many nice things she does for him. Since his plan is expired too I am sure I can get a fair deal for him as well. This way he can walk the streets of Chicago and have his hands free. I realize that College student's cell phones are their life line. Since he has been doing so well in school...double major and all....he has earned something nice for a change.

Nice. I've got T-Mobile too. I'm personally wishing for the slide phone when I renew as I don't like the flip version.
But our big wish for Christmas is new computers or good upgrades.

I have the RAZr and I like it - mainly because it's slim enough so I can just slip it into my pocket. I don't care if it gets bounced around - I just don't want to have to carry around some big-ol belt-clip thingie or a bulky vinyl case that inflates the phone to the size of George Costanza's wallet.
When I got it I basked in the glow of exclusivity ... then the price dropped and I was the "sucker." Everyone and their cousin had one ... oh well. I still like it. Just wish the black one was available at the time I bought it.

Yes it is thin. However since I got it for Mrs Dood I got the leather slip case belt clip. This is nicer then the regular clip and it fits in Mrs Dood's purse without scratching it all up.
Did you get a Blue-Tooth Ear Gizmo? That is so neat! I got her the $69.00 one. Motorola HS820. Smaller...no boom mic...and comfortable!
EDIT: I do not care for the flashing blue LED though....I need to put a small piece of electrical tape over it.

Hmm... I've been shopping around the North-west for an ok phone with a fairly big storage. I have found this phone most interesting though... (Note that I am going on Orange, but Virgin has tons of details on it's mobile site)
http://www.virginmobile.com/mobile/p...RI-STD-K700I-1
There were other ones, but most of them had little features, or had expandable slots but were too expensive. I'll be getting it for £79.99 tomorrow ^^

In some ways I miss my old Motorola Flip Phone. It didn't have any caller ID or any Bells & Whisles. It was kinda big and chunky BUT, it felt good in your hand or between your neck & ear.
My Employer had one too...he also had the old style car hands free system. Cost about $500.00 for that phone only. Things have come quite a ways in 10 years.

if you want an obscenely exclusive cell phone check out the Vertu: http://www.vertu.com/
They typically run about $5,000 for the stainless steel model to $32,000 for the platinum model featuring a sapphire display. Among other things it includes 24-hr concierge service.

Oh...My...Lord!! Now I have seen everything! Talk about people having more money then GOD. As fast as Cell phones change tech....and then you would own one of these? You would have to have much disposable cash to throw around. I have to admit they are very well engineered and stylish.
Still....it is only a stinkin' Cell Phone!
(Xue Yi Liang...where do you find this stuff? You always find some of the most interesting websites)

That Samsung D600 looks like a decent phone. My only concern would be the sliding feature....will it break easley?
My son just loves his new RAZr. At first he was thinking it was too much.(He is a good son...always worried about me spending too much on him) Now that he has been setting it up he has figured out the Voice Activated feature he is happy. This is really spiffy with the Blue-Tooth Ear gizmo. He now just says the name and bingo...connection. I wanted him to have something easy to work with while he is freezing his buttocks off on the streets of Chicago. Also while he is on his laptop working/studying...it is a nice feature to have a hands free operation.

the slide is solid but it has no voice activation which would have been cool
imagine walking down the road with your bluetooth headset and just saying the name of the person u wanna call without needing to get the phone out
now thats cool

True....this is why I will not talk on a Cell in public. Like a Store. I will go outside. I also can't stand people in the cashier's line yapping on a cell. Hang up and deal with the people around you like the cashier. It is so rude.
OR!! When you hear that darn Nextel Beep and the person is so rune(or to stoopid to figure out)how to use the handset(click the button on top and then use it like a Cell)instead of blasting the area with the speaker. I do not want to hear your Nextel conversation. We use to have those for work....I made sure we got Cell Phones as soon as they gave out the Mobile To Mobile free call feature.
EDIT: Nextels use to be a cool Gizmo. The Free Direct connect was a nice way of not spending a fortune on minutes. However, Nextels are now obsolete in my opinion. Cell Phone companies came back with the free Mobile to Mobile feature and that makes it a better deal all around. Now you can tell some one to STFU and let me talk now(Just like the old days of simple regular phones)...one thing you could not do with direct connect. You had to listen to the person blah blah blah...and half the time it was garbled.
